Kara Walker's "3am Vision" is a cut-paper work that references the Kunstmuseum Basel's Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb, by Hans Holbein the Younger. Unlike Holbein's representation of Christ, Walker's figure is not dead, but is raised slightly from her supine position, propped up at the neck by a disembodied head—a literal head rest, supporting the body of another.
