"The likeness, for those who know, is to my late partner Carol. There is a photograph of her looking out from a train in India on a return trip she made there in 2014. But the painting is not ‘from’ the photo. As with a few other works that echo family album type snaps (including the hobby horse paintings), I do not work from the photo, but from the memory of the photo which mixes with my actual cumulative memory of the time/place/person(s)."
