Zipora Fried's work meditates on the relationship between the surface presence and the subconscious, and the potential of the artist’s hand to create and negate shape and form. Layers of line, color, and material build upon one another, occluding rational meaning for a phenomenological experience. In her newest colored pencil drawings, the dense richness of pigment, built up line by line, creates an expanse both intimate and all-encompassing in its scale and depth. Areas of deep red shimmer into bands of light coral, reverberating in a continuous making and unmaking of space and form. Offering both a visual and temporal experience of color, Fried's drawings are complete, prismatic environments resonating with energy and life.
