Teresa Lanceta describes her friend Charo, after which this work is titled, as the perfect embodiment of "physical strength and tremendous resilience," capable of adapting to and persevering through any adversity. She was related to the Spanish Romani Flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya, and an adept singer and dancer in her own right. Charo earned her living in a tablao (Flamenco performance space), and worked tirelessly to support her family. "To say she lived each day as it came isn’t quite correct," Lanceta writes. "She lived each moment, and my memory of that time is full of fluorescent colors."

"La Charo" is featured in the catalogue for Teresa Lanceta: 'Weaving as Open Source,' the artists major survey exhibition presented at MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona and Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM, Valencia), in 2022-23.
