"conion c 100 f (eshu)" is from william cordova’s '12 apostles (2022-2023)' series of twelve mixed-media collages, each showing a different model of boombox from the 1970s and 1980s set against a gold-leaf background. The collages exemplify cordova’s interest in cosmology, metaphysics, and the transglobal interconnections of radical cultural lineages. The “apostles'' of the title derives from the Greek word apostolos, meaning “messenger,” while the number twelve represents the months of the year rather than any Biblical narrative. Named in the parenthesized subtitle of each collage, the spiritual envoys of cordova’s boomboxes reference figures from Yoruban and Andean spiritualities, voudou, and Indigenous Incan history. The title of this work refers to the Yoruban spirit of crossroads, thresholds, and gathering places.
