In 2019, Josephine Halvorson became the first Artist-in-Residence at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, NM. During her residency, Halvorson spent time at O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and produced a body of work in response to this new environment. The paintings presented here illustrate natural and domestic details from the landscape of Abiquiu and within O'Keeffe's home; Halvorson's gaze is directed downward to the ground beneath her feet as much as it perceives the terrain around her. A ruler painted on the edge of her canvases emphasizes the one-to-one scale of her works, and the empirical process of registering and transcribing reality into painted scene.
